Árna Magnússonar fyrirlestur verður haldinn í Norræna húsinu á fæðingardegi Árna 13. nóvember og hefst hann kl. 17. Að þessu sinni er það ítalska fræðikonan Marilena Maniaci prófessor í handritafræðum. Hún er doktor í handritafræðum frá Sapienza háskólanum í Róm og starfaði sem fræðimaður við háskólann í Cassino og Suður-Lazio (Università degli Studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale). Hún hefur starfað sem prófessor við sama skóla frá árinu 2005. Marilena hefur gegnt ýmsum trúnaðarstörfum við háskólann, var t.d. vararektor rannsókna og samkeppnisverkefna og hefur verið staðgengill rektors. Hún er meðlimur í Bureau of the Comité International de Paléographie Latine (CIPL) og situr nú í stjórn þeirra samtaka. Hún var áður forseti Association Paléographique Internationale Culture Ecriture Société (APICES).

Among the new trends in contemporary codicology, the recognition of the ‘complex structure’ of ancient and medieval codices stands out as one of the most significant achievements.

The codex often has a complex genesis, since it may be composed of more parts, produced simultaneously in the same place or at very different points in time and space. But it also frequently has a complex evolution, since each of its parts may have had its own history, before finally being bound with other parts with which it shares, from that moment, a common history.

As it will be shown in the presentation, the exact delimitation of the constituent parts of a codex is one of the most crucial tasks for a correct interpretation of its genesis (the origin of each of its “production units”) and its historical evolution (the different forms – or “circulation units” – it has taken over time in isolation or combined with others).
