The Department for Northern European Studies at the Faculty for Philosophy II, Humboldt-University Berlin announces the position of Visiting Lecturer in Icelandic to start on 1st October 2012 and last for a period of 3 years.

The successful candidate will:
- independently conceptualize and develop courses for university-level Icelandic language instruction at a variety of levels for the B.A. and M.A. programs;
- teach an average total of 16 credit hours per semester (for a full-time position, 16 hours of instruction per week each semester) including linguistically informed and comparative Icelandic language instruction, introductions to Old Norse, as well as Icelandic literary and cultural studies;
- organize student excursions;
- procure literature and assist with other library tasks;
- assist in adminstrative duties.
Qualifications:
- a completed university degree with a major degree in Icelandic Studies, including at least a partial focus on linguistics;
- an advanced level of German language skills;
- preferably native-speaker of Icelandic;
- proof of didactic competency;
- at least two years of full-time experience teaching a foreign language or equivalent experience;
- experience in university-level instruction and research;
- commitment to promoting Icelandic culture in Berlin.
