A week-long intensive course in early Scandinavian (Old Norse-Icelandic and Old Danish) manuscript studies. Topics covered include palaeography, codicology, the description and transcription of primary sources, basic editorial technique and the theory and practice of textual criticism. The principal innovation in the area of editorial theory in recent years, ‘new’ or ‘material’ philology, will also be discussed, as will the possibilities offered by digital media.
