International Summer School in Modern Icelandic Language & Culture
Two kinds of programmes are offered: a four-week intensive on-campus programme in Reykjavík; and a four-week online course.
Summer School in Scandinavian Manuscript Studies
The school offers training in palaeography, codicology and transcription of Scandinavian manuscripts as well as editorial technique and textual criticism. Its location alternates between Reykjavík and Copenhagen.

Icelandic Government Scholarships
The Icelandic Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs awards annually a number of scholarships for BA-studies in Icelandic as a second language at the University of Iceland. The scholarship program is administrated by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.

Snorri Sturluson Icelandic Fellowships
Granted to writers, translators and scholars (not to university students) in the field of humanities, from outside Iceland, to enable them to stay in Iceland for a period of at least three months, in order to improve their knowledge of the Icelandic language, culture and society.

Programmes at the University of Iceland
Medieval Icelandic Studies — 90 ECTS
This international programme, which is run in collaboration the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, offers an interdisciplinary approach to Medieval Iceland with training in Medieval Icelandic language and literature, history, textual criticism, palaeography, folklore, religion, and archaeology.
Viking and Medieval Norse Studies — 120 ECTS
This international Nordic Master’s programme offers an interdisciplinary approach to Viking and Medieval Scandinavia by drawing on expertise in the fields of Norse literature, linguistics, history, textual criticism, palaeography, runology, folklore, religion, art, and archaeology at four different Nordic universities and associated research institutes, including the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.

A distance learning course with special focus on oral and written comprehension, grammar and written production.
Students receive individual feedback from a tutor on written exercises and instructions regarding grammar and vocabulary.

Learning Icelandic around the world
The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies supervises the teaching of Icelandic abroad and provides services to lecturers in Icelandic at foreign universities on behalf of the Icelandic government.
