The Codex Trajectinus of the Prose Edda

On August 12, new manuscripts were put on display in the exhibition World in Words, replacing others that have been on show in the past months. Among the new manuscripts is the Codex Trajectinus. This manuscript is on loan from the Utrecht University Library's Special Collections.

The Codex Trajectinus is one of the four main manuscripts of Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda. The manuscript was penned in the late 16th century by Páll Jónsson of Þernuvík in the West Fjords.

Curator Dr Bart Jaski brought the manuscript over from the Netherlands and has written an article on the book’s history for the Utrecht University website: The Codex Trajectinus of the Prose Edda.
